My love affair with Rachel Bilson began a few years ago. The year was 2006/2007 to be exact. Even though Rachel first shot to stardom with the series the O.C. in 2003, I didn’t become familiar with her work to her beautiful portrayal of Kim in The Last Kiss. Even though she was playing opposite Zach Braff and Jacinda Barrett who are accomplished actors in their own right, it was Rachel’s character which made me want to look her up and know more about this raven beauty that stole the show. From there I was gone. I had to watch all her other projects, and I found I was hooked. I thought to myself this girl is good. I have always tried to recognize talent before they hit A+ actress rating; this girl will obviously be there in no time. Even though I am not a casting agent, I do watch a lot of television and film primarily due to insomnia (3 seasons of OC in one night), but in this case thank goodness or I would not be the fan I am today, I normally would not give myself bragging rights however, I find I am pretty good (or lucky) at spotting talent who will make it in such a competitive profession. Plus, I enjoy getting to know them and watching them grow in the profession before they have 6 security guards and you can only get excited if I see the back of their head.
Rachel Bilson I find to be that actress. When I first set out to write this article I wanted to take a look at her and how someone in an industry that has a reputation for taking young actors and actresses and spitting them out. We have seen it time and time before. Lindsay Lohan, who I am routing for to get her act together and finally get the message, So with all due respect to Miss Bilson lets dissect her just a bit. What does Rachel do that young actresses should model her in every since of the word: 1.) Rachel’s picky about her roles not only are her portrayals honest and sincere with raw edginess at times, but they are age appropriate (not that she could not play an age range, but just like when you start out writing a novel, and they tell you to write what you know. Actresses should be given the same advice when starting out; this allows people to relate to them. If I could dare draw a comparison with another A+ actress I would say she is the next Sandra Bullock (I felt the same way when I first saw Sandra in Love Potion no.9) 2.) Rachel surrounds herself around the right people. She does not party with boozing entourage but she loves her fans and her family seems to be one of her biggest support system there is out there. There is not a time she is not posting photos of activities (usually baking and shopping….a girls dream) with her close friends and family. 3.) Rachel is business savvy. With home lines of products, a contributor to InStyle (who she is world renown for her California style) but has also teamed up with a the shoe line Shoe Mint.
There is no doubt Rachel is taking Hollywood by storm, she will grace the covers of magazines and be in blockbuster movies. Rachel Bilson is the IT GIRL. I have found her to be one of the most honest and original women in Hollywood. I do not know how she was brought up but, she is what parents do right. With all the cautionary tales that come out of Hollywood. Rachel has surpassed all of that and is one not only to watch but cheer for.
For those who want to catch up with her, she is currently playing The Hart of Dixie (on C.W. Network) which just got renewed for a second season a. Rachel plays Dr. Zoe Hart who does everything right and then as life does so many times throws a fork in the road but she is finding that being the big fish in a smaller pond sometimes pays off ….in a big way.
